Google is developing a new podcast app called "Shortwave". The new software is under development, and its existence was recently revealed by a trademark filing which states that "it allows users to search, access and run digital audio files, and share links to audio files".

In addition, there is nothing in trademark filing, but a Google representative said that the focus of the app was on the spoken-word content. There is very little public information about the app, though Google has played with smart captioning, translation and other AI-assisted features in previous podcast products.

Google has stated that "From many projects one of the project we're working within the Area 120 is the "shortwave", which helps users find and consume audio words-spoken in new ways. Like other projects within Area 120, This is a very early experiment, So very few details to share now".
